Semaglutide.

Semaglutide belongs to a class of medications known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. It mimics the GLP-1 hormone released in the gastrointestinal tract in response to eating. GLP-1 tells the body to produce more insulin, reducing blood glucose levels, and targeting areas of the brain that regulate appetite and suppress food cravings.

Weight Goals.
 

Patients can lose up to 15% of their body weight with incorporation of diet and exercise. Results vary. 

Dosing & Prices

  • Semaglutide is a once-a-week subcutaneous injection

  • Week 1-4: 0.25mg x 4 Injections= $250

  • Week 5-8: 0.5mg x 4 Injections = $300

  • Week 9-12: 1mg x 4 Injections = $350

    • Higher doses will be discussed at follow-up appointment

Side Effects.

  • Nausea

  • Heartburn

  • Vomiting

  • Constipation

  • Diarrhea

  • Fatigue

Patients with the following should NOT take Semaglutide:

  • Decreased kidney functions or kidney disease

  • Under the age of 18

  • Type 1 Diabetic

  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)

  • Diabetic retinopathy

  • Disease of the gallbladder

  • History of pancreatitis

  • Medullary thyroid cancer

  • Family history medullary thyroid carcinoma

  • Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2

  • Pregnant or plan to become pregnant, breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed

  • BMI less than 25
